I used to be a physical science and physics teacher.  Although I learned these subjects in high school, it wasn’t until I began to teach that I really began to understand them.  All of a sudden, the laws of motion made more sense to me.  I wasn’t sure if that was due to my teaching it or just that my high school teacher didn’t explain it in a way that really vibed with me.  Whatever the answer was, I was now able to come into an understanding of motion that didn’t just affect science.  I saw how that affected life.

One of the ideas that has always stuck with me is that of momentum.  Momentum is equal to mass times acceleration.  Pretty much, what that means is that a small car can cause damage to a tractor trailer if it is going fast enough.  It’s why in the boxing ring, a bigger guy can pack more of a power punch than a smaller guy…not because he/she is necessarily stronger.  They are just bigger.

Here’s the quick relation to everyday life.  Sometimes, we spend gobs of time watching others and wondering how they have more, why they are doing better, why things just seem to come more easily to them.  Talent and circumstance do have something to do with it.  But, the word “momentum” is also a part of that equation.  You see, whatever your size, if you begin to move, move regularly, gain traction and pick up speed, you begin to increase in momentum and your IMPACT will be greater.  Make sense?

Ever wonder why your exercise program doesn’t do what you want it to do?  If you take unprescribed breaks, you don’t build up the momentum.  Ever wonder why your business seems to get stuck in one gear?  Aside from your strategy, there is a level of momentum involved that you haven’t tapped into yet.

Whatever it is that you are up to, the way to gain greater IMPACT is to increase your size or your amount of action.

What are you doing to gain greater MOMENTUM?  I’d love to read your responses in the comments.

P.S. – I may have mentioned this earlier, but I wanted to share something that I’m launching in July.  This is DESIGNED to help you increase your momentum.  It’s called the Purpose, Power & Profit Club.  I’ll be sharing more information this week.  But, if you want in on the early information, CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP.

Good advice, Robert. I’ve heard if you meet a bear in the woods, you should make yourself look bigger so he’ll leave you alone, though I’ve never had to do that.

But this year I will strive to stay on the move!

:). I hope to never meet a bear in the woods either, unless I’m in a vehicle that is faster than the bear 🙂
